Share Your Senior Love Story

Have a love story to share? The Ehlers Group wants your story for a book entitled, 365 Senior Love Stories.

Co-authors Janis Ehlers and Kerry Green launched their national campaign search last year seeking love stories from seniors, age 70+.

“We’ve received the most heart warming stories from all over the country,” said Ehlers. “The postmarks on submissions clearly illustrate the power of social media and the Internet in spreading the word.”

Valentine’s Day brings to mind a wonderful romantic submission from Naples, Fla. residents Jim and Josephine Heirs who will celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary Feb. 14. The couple shared their story about meeting in Haiti in the 70s where both had gone to get quick divorces from their spouses.

To avoid family hassles they decided to elope on St. John’s U.S. Virgin Islands but almost missed their own wedding. They had to swim to shore from a tour boat to make the scheduled ceremony. The couple now lives at Arbor Trace, an active adult retirement community.

The submission deadline has been extended and the company will continue accepting love stories as long as people are willing to tell them.

The Ehlers Group has also launched a new service for those wanting to submit senior love stories: scheduled telephone interviews.

“People have great stories but they want someone else to write them down,” said Ehlers, a marketing and communication specialist whose company is primarily in active adult and senior housing communities. “We are also getting the word out to community lifestyle and activity directors in the hopes that they will use 365 Senior Love Stories as a creative writing project.”
